Internship Success

UEA student Alexandria Siddal was searching for an opportunity to work somewhere where her skills would have a positive impact. She secured a placement with us.

As part of the Norwich Research Park Biosciences Doctoral Training Partnership Programme, students undertake a 12 week professional internship (PIPS) in an area unrelated to their PhD to develop high-level personal and professional skills for future employability. Alex took her placement with us during the third year of her PhD; an opportunity she came across in the PIPS newsletter. Her expertise with handling data provided much needed assistance to the way we manage our information, allowing us to improve our approach to clients and refine the way we store and access their data.

Through her experience working with us, Alex was assured that her skills were effective outside of research and her motivation to move away from academia post-PhD was reinforced. She liked knowing that her work would have an impact and would lead to tangible change and benefit to the charity and the community, and she appreciated being part of our collaborative project environment, where she could see how her contribution could then be built upon by others.

Upon completing her internship, Alex continues to volunteer with us to further develop our data management processes.
