Chances Project - Liza’s story
When Liza started working with the Chances project, she hadn’t had a job in nine months – but that was about to change. After Covid, everything was different: her employer had to let her go, and she’d lost confidence that she’d be able to work again. Her housing situation was precarious, too. She wasn’t sure she’d be able to afford her rent, and wanted to move to a more affordable flat. Liza wanted to work, and was motivated to find a job – but she needed confidence, and support, to help her take the next step.
Chances provided that support. Liza worked one-to-one with Eniko, one of our Advocates, to update her CV, assist her with job searching, and helped her access opportunities to improve her English. In less than a month, Liza had attended an interview and been offered a new job, as well as securing a permanent tenancy with Clarion. Eniko even helped Liza search for used furniture around Holt, so that she could furnish her new home with a dining table and chairs.
This is why Chances works. Advocates offer one-to-one, tailored support to help you take the next step towards work. We have time to spend with you, in person and face to face. It’s not just about pushing you into a job or getting you to log onto a website every day to prove you want to work. We’re here to support your wellbeing as well as your job search. You choose to work with us. Take a chance on us, we’ll create chances for you.
In Liza’s case, she found a new job. We can also help you access training and education, improve or refresh your skills, help you overcome practical issues (like finding transport, route planning and childcare), boost your confidence, and help you get more active.
