Become a Volunteer Adviser
Advisers talk to clients face-to-face and over the phone to learn about their problems and what they would like help with, find out more information, and help them understand their options.
We aim to support them to take action to resolve their problems. This might include drafting or writing letters, making phone calls, or referring the client to another organisation.
We include training in the following issues:

Write a summary of the clients’ problems and the actions you’ve taken to help them.
Look out for problems’ that are common, or are unfair, and work with our Research & Campaigns team to create real local change.

You don’t need specific qualifications or skills.
But you will need to be:
Friendly and approachable (dependent on role)
Non-judgmental and respectful of views, values and cultures that are different to your own
Be able to listen and communicate effectively
Have good IT skills
Be willing to learn about and follow our aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection
Be willing to undertake training in your role

We are flexible about the time you spend volunteering with us. Feel free to talk to us about how your volunteering hours can be best fit into your schedule.
Initially, we ask that you dedicate 2 days a week for around 12 weeks for training.
Once you've become a fully trained adviser, we ask that you dedicate 1 day a week for at least 40 weeks of the year to advising.

You will be making a real difference in lives of the people you advise and learning how to tackle a range of present-day issues that are affecting the members of our communities.
Our volunteer training courses build on valuable skills such as communication, listening and creative problem-solving and experience with us increases your employability.
You will get to meet and work with a range of different people, both independently and in a team.
