Citizens Advice Data Insights: Spring Budget 2024
The Spring Budget was likely the chancellor's last opportunity to tackle the cost-of-living crisis before the upcoming general election. This month we will model what his decisions, including the latest tax cuts, mean for the lives of the people we help. Using our new tool ‘The National Red Index’ we will show how many of the 5 million people living in a negative budget, where income isn’t enough to cover essential costs, could be lifted out of the red.
Citizens Advice Chief Executive, Dame Clare Moriarty and Chief Data Analyst, Tom MacInnes will examine our latest data to show the impact of February's cost-of-living payments and the cuts to National Insurance which came into effect in January. We’ll also look ahead to April, and examine the political decisions that are coming into force; modelling how falling energy prices alongside benefits and Local Housing Allowance uprating, will begin to ease the crisis for many.
