One person every 10 seconds is cut off from their energy supply.
In 2022 Citizens Advice saw more people who can't top up their prepayment meter than in the whole of the last 10 years combined.
Increasing energy bills
Many households saw their energy bills rise by around 54% in April 2022 (unless they in a fixed deal). On average, that is a rise of more than £700 per year!
If you’re on a fixed deal, the unit price of your energy will not go up until your fixed plan ends and you are moved onto a variable default tariff. If you’re not sure what tariff you are on, check your bill or contact your energy supplier.
Energy - if your energy company goes bust!
If your energy company goes bust
You’ll still have gas and electricity if your energy supplier goes out of business. Take meter readings.
The gas and electricity regulator, Ofgem, will move you to a new supplier. This usually takes a few weeks.
